Egg-Laying Day Three

It is three o’clock in the morning, and still the turtles are keeping me busy with eggs.

Yesterday Dr. Rimkus started the second round of turtles. Meanwhile, those that have finished laying their eggs (or so we think) are taking a swim in the tank.

Mother turtles take a swim after their hard work.

Eggs cannot sit in water for over an hour, and, to remain hydrated, turtles cannot sit on the racks over two hours. I must therefore fish out all eggs every hour and let the mothers swim every other hour. To keep both eggs and turtles alive—that’s my duty for the next few days to come. I’ve decided, instead of hiking back and forth between my room and the turtle lab, to save energy and simply camp out in the general biology lab next door.

I must get back to Turtle P now. She has laid ten eggs so far—more than anybody else.
